Too much stress can weaken a person’s immune system, damage their brain, and nip in the bud of a loved one. It is a modern-day epidemic that affects an estimated 75% of Americans according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
It’s difficult to pinpoint what causes stress but it is no secret that worrying about money or work is the number one cause of anxiety for most people in America, with over half experiencing some kind of anxiety related to finances on an ongoing basis.
According to The Mind Body Pharmacy, there are three main types of stress which can lead to serious long-term health problems. “Acute Stress” is a reaction to a very short-term event, such as witnessing a murder or accident, or being in a life threatening situation. “Chronic Stress” is constant stress which exists over long periods of time. “Stress Illness,” which includes depression and anxiety disorders, is a result of chronic stress.
A study found that chronically producing cortisol in the body can weaken the immune system and contribute to serious physical disease including cardiovascular disease and diabetes. In order to help you fight stress, here are three tips that hopefully would improve your condition.
Keep Yourself Busy, It Is The Best Option
Stay active when you are feeling stressed – this will keep your mind occupied by something without having worry or anxiety about being distracted from it. Try activities that do not require much thinking, like listening to music, playing with toys, cooking or anything that can help you relax.
Sleep At Least 8 Hours
Get enough sleep. Studies show that people who get 8 hours of sleep are less stressed than those who don’t. Sleep improves your mood and helps determine how you think about yourself and the world around you. Do not over-plan out your life. Take time to work out your priorities for the next week or month, keep an open mind instead of being too strict on yourself. Take a break every now and then to stop worrying about everything and just be happy for once in a while. It will boost your mood and let you start afresh again later on.
Above All: See The Glass Half-Full
Stay positive. Studies show that people who are positive about life are less stressed than those who are negative about life. People who are happy tend to be more successful, enjoy everything they do and love more. Try to think of the future glowingly so you can start looking forward to new things and fulfil your dreams without fear of failure or disappointment.
